Why it matters
Global Affairs Canada recommends a consent letter for a minor travelling without both parents or guardians. Border authorities may ask to see it, so notarizing it adds confidence it will be accepted.
Who signs
A non-accompanying parent or guardian with custody should sign; if neither parent travels, both should sign. Include travel dates, destinations and contact details, and sign before the commissioner.
Plan ahead
