Done in person: Certified true copies, signature witnessing, apostille steps, and Wills or Powers of Attorney require an in-person appointment or a licensed Ontario lawyer.

How online commissioning works in Ontario
Under Ontario Regulation 431/20, a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits can administer an oath, affirmation or declaration over a live audio-visual connection, subject to conditions the commissioner confirms during the session. You verify your identity on camera and sign during the appointment — nothing is signed in advance.
Some documents fall outside remote commissioning. Certified true copies require a notary to examine the physical original; signature witnessing requires the notary to observe the signing; and Wills and Powers of Attorney have strict execution rules confirmed by a lawyer. We route your document to the right service before you book.

Is online notarization available in Ontario?▾
Ontario permits oaths, affirmations and statutory declarations to be commissioned using audio-visual technology under O. Reg. 431/20, subject to specific requirements. Whether it applies to your document depends on the document type and the receiving institution.
Which documents can be done online in Ontario?▾
Many affidavits, statutory declarations and letters can be commissioned remotely by video. Certified true copies, general signature witnessing, and Wills or Powers of Attorney require an in-person appointment or a lawyer.
What identification do I need in Ontario?▾
A current government-issued photo ID, such as an Ontario driver's licence or a passport. The name on your ID should match the name on your document.
Do you serve all of Ontario?▾
Online commissioning is available from anywhere in Ontario by secure video. In-person appointments are offered at GTA offices. Documents and signers outside Ontario are reviewed before booking.
