Online (remote) notarization lets you meet an Ontario commissioner or notary by live video instead of in person. You verify your identity on camera, swear or affirm your document, and it is signed and sealed electronically โ with the same effect as an in-person appointment for documents where remote commissioning is permitted.

Which documents can be notarized online in Ontario?โพ

Do I sign the document before the session?โพ
No. You sign during the video session, on camera, after the commissioner confirms your identity. Bring the document completed but unsigned.
What equipment do I need?โพ
A device with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and valid government-issued photo ID. No printer, scanner or software install is required.
Is a remotely commissioned document treated the same as in person?โพ
For documents where remote commissioning is permitted, it has the same effect as an in-person appointment. Whether a specific court, government office or institution accepts it is their decision โ we flag known requirements before you book.
